The present volume on 'Mohiniyattam: Its Art and Aesthetics' by Bharati Shivaji, a celebrated exponent of Mohini Attam, takes the reader to those early years when there were no takers for this dance form of Kerala. At the suggestion of Kamala Devi, Bharati undertook not only rigorous training in Mohini Attam (I prefer to spell it as Mohini Attam instead Mohiniyattam) but also did extensive research by visiting various parts of Kerala and contributed to the revival and further exposure to this near extinct dance form. Kamala Devi arranged for a financial grant for this project from the Sangeet Natak Akademi.

  1. Hello Sunil bhai, I am trying to buy a copy since its release at Kerala Kalamandalam on March 10th. Kalamandalam people said they have no idea about the publisher and where it is available, and no copy is available at their library. Bharati Shivaji yet to reply to my enquiry too. On seeing this review, I have again tried in Amazon and Flipkart, but futile. From your review, I understand that it is by Shubhi Publications, Gurgaon-122016 and not mentioned the price. Online sellers such as Amazon takes orders only with a cost. Can't see any provision to buy online from the publisher as well. Their site http://www.shubhipublications.com appears not in use. I rang their tel no 91-1245081199 got from google but said it's not functioning.
